A Short History of Chocolate: How Lucky We Are
I am currently taking time off to raise my newborn twins, Aria & Zachary.  They arrived on November 6, 2007.  We are having a lot of fun getting to know each other as we all grow.

Please check back often for updates.  See you soon!

Theresa Bizzell, M.A. Nutrition

Theresa began studying health and nutrition in the early 90's in response to her belief in the body's innate ability to heal itself. In 1998, she received her Master of Arts degree in Nutrition from Syracuse University. Convinced there was more to a healthy lifestyle than just vitamins and minerals, she continued her studies at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN) and became certified as a Holistic Health Counselor by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners (AADP). At IIN, Theresa studied numerous dietary theories and the mind-body connection. Her counseling experience is fortified by her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Alfred University.

Theresa combines cutting-edge, holistic nutritional theory, meditation practice and yoga, to help people address their health concerns and attain optimal health and well being in their lives. Life is about choices. We can create anything in our lives with the proper focus, intention, and right action. This is the essence of the core belief system Theresa incorporates to inform and empower clients.

  • Local and whole foods benefit ourselves and the greater community. Nature has a system all her own. One which we have yet to fully understand. Supplements and processed foods do not replace all of the components in a whole food. Additionally, the climate we live in provides the right foods to eat for every season. By knowing your farmer and/or buying foods grown in the region that you live, you not only support your community, you ensure that the foods you and your family eat support your health.

  • A mind-body connection exists to support our overall well-being. The physical condition of our body and our mental outlook work synergistically with each other. We cannot have a balanced life when any one part or all of our mind, body and soul is not receiving the nourishment that it needs. Focusing on all three aspects allows us to realize our true potential as individuals.

  • Life is full of choices and opportunities. When we set our minds to creating something the universe conspires to help us create it. By designing an environment that encourages change and growth we can realize our true purpose in life.

  • Growth requires simultaneously teaching and learning. Holistic Health Counseling is cutting-edge and continuously evolving. It evolves to fit each client and, as no two persons are identical, no two client programs are identical.

In addition to studying holistic practices around food and health, Theresa is a natural foods chef specializing in whole foods and vegetarian meal planning. For years she has taught cooking and nutrition at Syracuse University, the Zen Center of Syracuse and the Green Mountain Institute in Vermont & Portugal. Her nutrition classes incorporate scientific theory with a practical understanding of how food interacts with the body. Cooking classes focus on meals designed to support and promote health and vitality. Her classes draw extensively from her experience as the head chef, also known as the Tenzo, for the Zen Center of Syracuse.
